Maybe the more emotions a person experiences in their daily lives, the longer time seems to feel to them. As you get older, you experience fewer new things, and so time seems to go by faster.

About This Quote

This is a very interesting theory. It's a bit primitive, but it's a good start. If you go back and look at the origins of the life expectancy chart, it starts off with a fairly young 20-year old, then goes through 50s, 60s, 70s and 80s where median lifespans seem to be around the same as today's. Then as you get into your 80s and 90s, mortality rates start to go down, but they don't really go down much past there - they only go by about 10% from there on out. This suggests that as you age, your overall mortality rate goes up a little bit, but your time perception changes so that things seem to go by faster for you than for younger people.
